New York Public Records
The New York State Records mission is to provide every person the right to detect, obtain, preview and examine public records, consequently ensuring residents of the state of New York are provided access in complete accordance with the New York Freedom of Information Law, which establishes open access to any public records: http://www.dos.ny.gov/.
The statute does not limit access to records based on the status of the requester but rather states that the public, individually and collectively, should have access to the records without having to present a “need to know” unless the law has expressively notified otherwise.
New York State Records encompass data about the following subjects: Criminal Records, Court Records, Vital Records and State Background Checks, including the information in the number of over 180 million public records.
The search functionality granted in this portal enables the information requested to be presented immediately and accurately. New York state records have been gathered dating from the year 1880 and include information from 62 counties, thereby ensuring New York abides by the commitment of the United States of America to remain a “fair and just” society for all.
